Draft Magazine Covers - Cover 3
The masthead uses a serif font in deep red which connotes sophistication. The word ‘archive’ also suggests curation and taste rather than trends which shows that the magazine is intellectual as well as stylish. The font aligns with a high-end style, much like vogue. However, to improve this i believe i could alter the colour slightly of the masthead to a deep red to make it more refined and obvious to the reader. And slightly adjusting the letter spacing would improve readability and elegance. The subject of the image is styled in a neutral tone jacket, glasses and subtle accessories. This is something that I would like to keep in my final product due to the downplayed but stylish model making a casual outfit magazine worthy and high end, especially with the use of neutral colours. Furthermore, the urban London setting also reinforces modernity. The pose of the model also reinforces a laid-back vibe which aligns with the idea of a feminist magazine, whilst keeping the high-end conventions. To improve the background image, I aim to create an image with a smooth and darker background to draw to the copy and main image and promote readability.
The cover line ‘the big fashion issue’ functions as the dominant anchorage of the cover which clearly tell the reader the focus which is fashion. I also am a fan of the muted beige and italics of the text as it gives it a classy and modern feel. However, it does clash with the background, but this will be changed in my final product.
